佛經雖無特別提到能通「狗語」之記載，但：

《大方廣佛華嚴經》卷63：

「善男子！我已獲得妙音陀羅尼，能分別知三千大千世界中諸天語言，諸龍、夜叉、乾闥婆、阿脩羅、迦樓羅、緊那羅、摩睺羅伽、人與非人及諸梵天所有語言。」

因此能通「狗語」應非無稽之談。

當修學佛法而有某種神通、三昧等，應該就能通「狗語」。
