搶第三名無望，巴西本屆世界盃被進14球，也打破世界盃主辦國球隊最多失球記錄。

前一個最多失球的世界盃東道主，要追溯到1954年的瑞士（10球），相隔60年後被巴西給刷新紀錄。

巴西小組賽僅丟2球，最傷的莫過於四強被德國狂進7球，加上季軍戰的3球，還有十六強與八強各被進1球，共計14球。

這也是巴西自1940年以後，再度於主場連續兩戰吞敗，前一次他們輸給阿根廷與烏拉圭，這回是德國與荷蘭。
