長期關注微軟（Microsoft）動態的美國科技網站ZDNet專欄作家弗利（Mary Jo Foley）引述消息人士報導，為吸引消費者升級新系統，微軟在明年初推出Windows 9之際，不僅Windows 8與8.1的用戶能夠免費升級，可能同時連Windows XP、Windows Vista與Windows 7都可以一併沾光。

Windows 8系列推出以來，批評聲浪不斷，至今仍無法擔負起微軟原本計劃的振興PC（Personal Computer，個人電腦）市場任務，因此據傳微軟有意加速推出Windows 9，力圖一舉橫跨PC、平板電腦與手機市場。

弗利表示，Windows 9的開發工作正在穩步進行，可能會在明年春季推出，而無論目前用戶是使用Windows XP、Windows Vista、Windows 7、Windows 8或8.1系統，到時都有可能享有免費升級。

儘管此舉可能對微軟的營收與獲利造成極大影響，但這樣一來既能幫助微軟鞏固Windows的市佔率，也可能帶動整個PC市場，利大於弊，因此仍被視為微軟可能祭出的必殺絕技。（賴宇萍／綜合外電報導）
