羅姆公司（ROHM）致力於將「超摩爾法則」（More than Moore）型半導體技術應用於感測器開發，為此公佈了能在醫療、建築等領域發揮作用的傳感技術。這些技術均利用攝影元件和感測器讀取紅外線、X光等不同波長的光波來進行分析。多數技術採用的是已知原理，除了羅姆之外，還有其他企業也在推進實用化，但羅姆希望運用半導體技術，在不遠的將來，把上述技術推廣到貼近生活的消費類產品之中。

該公司正在開發能實現人體可視化的攝影元件（圖像感測器）（圖1），使用的是波長大於可見光的近紅外線（NIR）。近紅外線具有能穿透人體3cm左右的性質。該器件的原理是，照射近紅外線LED後，使用專用攝影元件（使用化合物CIGS膜製成的元件）拍攝反射光；通過改變近紅外線的波長，獲取圖像，然後進行圖像處理，使需要顯像的血管等更加鮮明地呈現出來。如果能清晰地拍攝血管，就有可能用於高精度的生物認證（圖2）。

近紅外線攝影技術還能在環境測量中發揮作用，獲得不受大氣擴散影響、晃動和模糊較少的圖像（圖3）。

近紅外線也能拍攝到癌細胞。使用波長1.2μm的近紅外線並借助拉曼散射效應，就能識別出癌細胞。
