由於第二代Sunny的產品週期只有3年3個月，第三代車型便於1973年誕生，表面上NISSAN針對第三代Sunny開發時間很短，實際上在第二代尚未問世前就已經展開，尤其在外觀造型更著墨許久，雖說底盤結構承襲第二代，但更具跑格的造型卻讓市場趨之若鶩，但卻因轉變過大而無法獲得消費者認同。
