蘇門答臘犀牛恐絕種　動物園擬讓姊弟交配

【綜合報導】為了拯救全球僅存100頭瀕危蘇門答臘犀牛(Sumatran rhino)，美國辛辛那提動物園不得不採取最終手段，計畫讓園內的犀牛姊弟近親交配。
 
新加坡保育人士表示由於商業開發和盜獵嚴重，蘇門答臘犀牛的數量，從80年代到現在銳減9成，為了保障蘇門答臘犀牛免於絕種，他們只能選擇最無可奈何的辦法，讓9歲的蘇西姊姊和6歲的哈拉潘弟弟交配，且因牠們是當地碩果僅存的2頭蘇門答臘犀牛，如果無法持續繁衍的話，勢必會走上絕種一途。
 
不過近親交配也引發恐產下基因不良的犀牛寶寶的疑慮，園方表示評估之下，他們認為先能確保產下更多後代避免絕種，才是當務之急。
