美實驗室達成史上首次「可控制核融合」

【李忠謙／綜合外電報導】英國國家廣播公司（BBC）報導，美國國家點火設施（National Ignition Facility，簡稱NIF）今年9月已在實驗室達成「可控制核融合」的重要里程碑，人類可望使用這種技術產生穩定、便宜的能源。

核融合是質量較小的原子間發生原子核相互融合，產生質量較重的原子核，同時伴隨據大的能量釋放。科學家認為，太陽與其他恆星的能源就是來自核融合。人類已經懂得實現不受控制的核融合，也就是氫彈。核融合產生的龐大能量也可以用來發電，但這必須讓核融合的速度與規模在「可控制」的狀態下實現，才能獲得持續、平穩的能源輸出。

BBC報導，NIF的科學家使用192道世界上最強大的雷射光束，聚焦在氫同位素固體小球上將其加熱與壓縮，促成核融合反應發生。BBC稱，科學家這次的核融合實驗不但成功，其所產生的能量也大於投入的能量，是世界上所有的核融合實驗室第一次達成這項重要的里程碑。
