高雄市發生重大氣爆事件，造成當地重大傷亡，總統馬英九2日南下慰問傷患與罹難者家屬，卻又發生失言風波，馬英九在探視一名受傷消防員時，竟說「我也曾經手斷過，『打斷手骨顛倒勇』」，讓現場氣氛瞬間陷入尷尬，而受傷消防員也只能苦笑。

根據《壹電視》報導，總統馬英九2日到醫院探視一名受傷的消防員，先是詢問傷患「很痛嗎？」，接著疑似想緩和氣氛，展現出他的馬氏幽默，竟對消防員說「我也曾經手斷過，『打斷手骨顛倒勇』」，讓在場的人一陣苦笑。

且行政院公布開始降半旗的時間明明訂於8月5日，馬英九卻說成8月4日，讓現場的人錯愕。南下勘災卻引發失言風暴，也在網誤上被網友罵翻，有網友痛批：「搞不清楚狀況！」、「每次都不看場合說話」。
